THE LOCATION

Smithfield Mountain Bike ParkSmurf's Backyard Ultra will be held at Smithfield Mountain Bike Park on the north side of Cairns. The mountain bike park is famous for it's technical and adventurous trails, but don't fear - we will be running on relatively easy trails!

James Cook University - CairnsThe Smithfield MTB Park is situated at the back of the Cairns campus of James Cook University. We are proud to be able to partner with JCU to bring you a world class Backyard Ultra in a stunning location.

Close Proximity to CairnsThe venue for Smurf's BYU is a short 15-20 minute drive north from Cairns Airport and Cairns City. Smithfield shopping centre is only a 5 minute drive, and the venue is within close proximity to accommodation, Cairns beaches and many Cairns tourist attractions.

The Course

The Smurf's BYU course is a 6.7km loop covering open dirt roads, single track rainforest trail and open rainforest trail through the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park.

The course starts with a 1.5km out and back on open and unshaded dirt roads to spread out the field of runners. After running back through the event precinct, runners turn left on to a shaded dirt road which continues for another 1.1km before heading in to single track rainforest trail. This trail winds through the easier MTB trails for km's with some small ups and downs for approximately 3.5km.

The loop finishes with a 300m stretch on dirt road back to the starting corral.

The 6.7km loop includes approximately 125m of elevation per lap.
